Hello!
David West
- getting to know me -
Hi, I’m David.
A UK wedding photographer specialising in natural, documentary-style weddings across the North East, London and destinations throughout the UK and Europe.
Before photography, I spent over 15 years working in graphic arts and design. That creative background shaped how I see light, composition and storytelling, and eventually led me into wedding photography — where I discovered something far more rewarding: documenting real moments between real people.
Weddings are wonderfully unpredictable.
They move quickly, emotions run high, and the best moments are rarely planned.
My approach is simple — photograph the day as it naturally unfolds without turning it into a photoshoot.
Most of the time I work quietly in the background, capturing genuine moments as they happen. The nervous excitement before the ceremony, the laughter between friends, the small glances that often go unnoticed.
No awkward posing.
No constant interruptions.
Just natural photographs that feel timeless and true to the day.
Over the years I’ve also learned that being a wedding photographer is about much more than simply taking pictures.
Sometimes couples need a photographer.
Sometimes they need a calm extra pair of hands.
You might find me straightening a veil before the aisle walk, helping a groomsman with a buttonhole, fixing a dress, calming nerves or occasionally entertaining a baby so mum can breathe for a moment.
And then just as quickly, I disappear back into the background — capturing the moments that happen naturally when nobody realises the camera is there.
By the end of the day, couples often say it felt less like having a photographer and more like having someone quietly helping everything run smoothly.
That’s exactly how it should feel.
Although based in the North East of England, I photograph weddings across the UK and internationally. I’ve been fortunate enough to work at some incredible venues including Peckforton Castle, Wotton House and The Savoy London, as well as many beautiful country houses and destination locations throughout Europe.
Wherever your wedding takes place, my aim is always the same — to create photographs that feel natural, elegant and timeless.
Away from weddings, life revolves around my family. My wife Marie and our children keep life wonderfully busy and constantly remind me that the small, unscripted moments are often the most meaningful — something that naturally influences how I photograph weddings.
If you’re planning a wedding and looking for a photographer who will capture the day naturally while allowing you to fully enjoy the celebration, I’d love to hear about your plans.
